Friday Praise

What is Friday Praise?

Friday Praise is a congregation which meets fortnightly on a Friday after school. This informal worship allows pupils, their families and the local community to come together to Praise God.

The services last around 45 minutes and begins at 3:30pm.

It includes family friendly hymns, prayer, a short sermon and child friendly craft activities. Occasionally,  Father David will carry out a Holy Eucharist.

All our families are welcome to attend as well as members of the local community.

Friday Praise attendance also counts towards secondary school places at church schools such as St. Christopher’s.

Please check the school Facebook page and newsletters for updates on the next Friday Praise meeting.

As the Bishop Philip said at the very first worship, “We invite everyone to come along, including the families of children who attend St Nicholas School itself!”

Who leads Friday Praise?

Today, it is led by Father David, the vicar of our affiliated church, St Andrews.

Why did Friday Praise begin?

Friday Praise began in December 2015 at St Nicholas CE Primary School. Following the closure of our affiliated church, St James. Our school was the first participant in the ‘Vision 26 strategy’ of Blackburn Diocese. The idea was to begin a new chapter in the life of the church community in Accrington. The very first service was led by the former Bishop of Burnley, Philip North, who is now the Bishop of Blackburn.
